Join the Revolution

We must Strike the Letter "M" from the English language from all text on planet Earth.

Using what you've learned from Chapter 3 of the Teaching and Learning with Technology texbook, what specific objectives and tecnologies would be most helpful in starting this revolution?

  1. To begin with, we could have the "m" key removed from all keyboards. If it does not exist on computers or handheld communication devices, we would go a long way to eliminating the letter "m" It could be replaced with a smilely face key. Since this is so widely used and currently requires hitting two keys, having it on a single key would greatly improve productivity!

  2. Students should create a concept map of why the letter m is important. Then they should create ideas of how to replace the letter m to limit the effects of it.

With technology students need to create models to emulate their ideas. They will then need to present the findings to their classmates.

  3. First, we would assess our learners to find out how widespread the unwanted knowledge of the letter M is. Of course, the this would depend on the developmental stage of each learner and how many skills they have already acquired in recognizing and use this evil piece of text.

Next, teachers would create learning objectives that would succinctly and specifically define how students will unlearn this knowldege of the letter M.

Then, we will remove the letter from every book, sign, alphabet frize, etc. that dwells within our classroom environment. Additionally, during the instruction process of any lesson, we will remove this letter from our speech.

Next, we will use strategies--like illustrating using a model--how great the world would be without the letter M. A technology we might encorporate would include an online game that has students create words without use of the letter M.

Finally, we will use appropriate evaluation tools to assess whether we have reached our original objective--to get rid of the unwanted letter M.

  4. You know maybe we should switch it to the Chinese sound of ___. I don't have a Chinese keyboard so I am unable to type it in here. It might help to use sounds instead of letters.

  5. Well, it's going to take everything in the techno arsenal to get rid of the letter M, PLUS, quite a big personal sacrifice from many people, such as myself (or, "iself"...). I will have to become known as "ICHAEL" Lovett. Don't know if I could survive....
